3rd Autumn School on
X-ray scattering from surfaces
and thin layers
Smolenice, Slovakia
October 1 - 4, 1997
School
This autumn school is the third on this topic. The last school, held 1995
in Petzow close to Potsdam/Germany, was organized as "low
cost" panel
meeting for especially graduate and post-graduate students and other young
scientists to present their actual and often unpublished results. Because
no proceeding appeared the discussion was very lively and fruitful.
Following these experience we planned to continue this type of school in
1997. A "low cost" conference site we found in Smolenice/Slovakia, a
romantic castle in the pleasant countryside of the Small Carpathians,
kindly provided by the Slovakian Academy of Science. The decision for
organizing the school in Eastern Europe was not made by the very low costs
for board and lodging only but to give more Eastern Europe young scientist
the opportunity to attend the autumn school. On the other hand the
conference site, located 40 km north from Bratislava, is very close to
Germany and Austria, too. The "how-to-get-there" instructions will be sent
to all participants at least three weeks before the
conference.
Main Topics
- high resolution X-ray specular reflectivity
- high resolution X-ray reciprocal space maps
- nonspecular scattering (reflection and diffraction)
- X-ray grazing incidence diffraction
- surface rod scattering
- lateral surface structure scattering
Programme
As in Petzow the school program will consist in a limited number of
lectures to the above named general topics (90 minutes each). As
speakers are invited
- Dr. L. Tapfer (Brindisi)
- Dr. T. Baumbach (Dresden)
- Dr. T. Salditt (Munich)
- Dr. M. Tolan (Kiel)
- Dr. S. Stepanov (Minsk)
- Dr. J. Hartwig (Grenoble)
After these tutorials a lot of 20-minutes oral presentations are
planned followed by an unrestricted discussion. A small poster
presentation will be organized additionally. The content of the
invited lectures will be distributed at the beginning of the school.
No official proceeding will be published.
Organizers
Additional support of the
Deutsche Kristallographische Gesellschaft, the International
Union of Crystallography, and the Masaryk University inquired to give
a sponsorship for several under-graduate students and participants from
Eastern Europe.
Conference fee
The conference fee of 200 USD includes board and lodging and a
conference dinner. The money is to be paid at the beginning of the
conference.
The registration should be sent up to May 31, 1997 to one of the
organizers.
